Cllr Claire Harris reports:
Embracing the Spirit of Community This Festive Season
As the festive season unfolds, our streets shimmer with lights, and homes come alive with decorations, it’s a reminder of the joy and warmth that this time of year brings. For many, it’s a period filled with celebration, family gatherings, and the exchange of heartfelt gifts. However, amidst all the festivities, it's crucial to remember that not everyone shares in this joy. For some, this holiday season can be a reminder of solitude.
If you know someone who may be feeling isolated this Christmas, please consider reaching out. Our community thrives on connections, and there are numerous organisations and initiatives that work tirelessly to support those in need during this special time. Local churches, in particular, often have programs designed to offer warmth, companionship, and assistance. This is our chance to come together and ensure that everyone feels included in the festive spirit.
Reflecting on the past year
I am proud of the progress we have made in addressing local issues. One such achievement has been the collective effort to resolve the flooding problem on Beech Walk. Severn Trent have identified the root cause: tree roots infiltrating the pipes. This discovery led to Severn Trent scheduling a root cut on December 3rd, which we hope will alleviate the flooding and pave the way for resurfacing the carpark in the future. This is a testament to what can be achieved when you are persistent.
Additionally, I’ve been actively collaborating with various Parish Councils throughout the Ward. Together, we have focused on securing grants for community projects and supporting local events that bring us closer as neighbours. It’s these initiatives that help foster a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
My Social Media Poll
I also want to address a concern that many residents voiced recently. Following a poll I conducted on social media, the overwhelming response indicated a desire for an increased police presence in our area. I took these results to heart and have communicated them directly to our Beat Team and the Crime Commissioner. Listening to and responding to the community's needs is essential, and I genuinely hope that our leaders take these concerns seriously.
Bin Collections over the Christmas period
In terms of practical matters, I want to assure everyone that bin collection schedules will remain the same during the Christmas holidays, barring any unforeseen changes. It’s one less thing to worry about amid the hustle and bustle of the season!
As we step into this joyful time of year, let’s make a concerted effort to spread kindness and compassion. Reach out to neighbours, lend a helping hand, and check in on those who might be feeling the weight of loneliness. Together, we can create an inclusive environment that embodies the true spirit of Christmas.
From my family to yours, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! May this season bring you joy, peace, and a sense of belonging within our vibrant community. Let's continue to support one another and make our neighbourhood a warm and welcoming place for everyone.
If you have any problems, please remember that I'm here to help
